This document lists the requirements for a Letter of Authorization (LOA) that must be submitted by anyone acting as an agent for a vehicle owner in Fairfax County.
♦ Vehicle (car) Tax Letter of Authorization with Instructions Please review the Appealing Your Vehicle Assessment page for more information. Submit completed form via email to or mail it to Department of Tax Administration, 12000 Government Center Pkwy, Suite 261, Fairfax, VA 22035. Use this form if your vehicle was in less than average condition and you wish to appeal to the Department of Tax Administration. Boats, boat motors, trailers, mobile homes, and airplanes that are parked or normally kept in the County as of January 1 each year must be reported by May 1. Alternatively, you may register by phone, in person at the Government Center, or using our online vehicle registration tool. Simply download this form and mail it to the address above. New residents or those registering a motor vehicle for the first time must register their vehicle within 60 days after purchase or entry into the County.
